In which it's the Halloween season!
Alright, we may be pushing it a bit here, but I don't care. I adore Halloween, and since I live with a person for whom Halloween is an occupational hazard, it gets a lot of attention around here. This weekend we are decorating for the season--pumpkins and cornstalks and, as the piece de resistance, an enormous silhouette of a witch and three black cats. (The pattern was in Martha Stewart Living a few years back. You can now buy the set completely pre-made at her website if you're afraid of a jigsaw. I mean, there's no shame in it. I have a totally healthy terror of power tools and I'm cool with it.)
I'm also just finishing up my annual reading of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. If you've never read it, DO. It's short--a tiny novella--but packed with the most delicious descriptions of harvest scenes imaginable. Perfect seasonal ready, and spooky rather than over-the-top scary. (And if you have any seasonal reads, please share!)

Every fall, I pull out my well-worn copy of Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, and I have a terrific one-volume collection of Edgar Allen Poe's stories and poems. I also have a habit of having a candle burning while I read and my autumn choice is Yankee Candle's "autumn wreath" (a warm apple, cinnamon, and spice scent).

To Ali, who wants to be Jem.... you need to do it! The few people who will realize who you are make it sooo worth the effort!Autumn is my absolute favorite season, which is weird because I really despise the colors orange yellow and red. Mostly because I have red hair and can hardly wear the colors :D

I can't say Halloween is my favorite Holiday, because I have not grown up in USA. But it is certainly the holiday of the moment for my 4 year old, and I feel swept up with her excitement. So much so, that I am contemplating learning how to sew, so that my child can have a one of a kind (could be a very scary looking) princess dress - scary being the sewing part. I also picked up a bunch of silk flowers today feeling all inspired to make some flower pins. And our local WF is stocked with all sorts of pumpkins and squashes, and it got me all excited about Fall.As far as seasonal reads go, I turn to you for inspiration. :-)
I love Halloween! Especially
I love Halloween! Especially because it gives you a reason to eat a ton of candy! Though, I don't go trick-or-treating anymore. It was fun when I was little, but now it's just one of those days. Though, at Wal-Mart, they sell a TON of cool Halloween candy. Like, Gummy hands, bags of punch flavored blood (that are actually in IV bags!). Just crazy. Though, this year we won't do much, because my dad will be in Charleston, SC.
I agree with whoever
I agree with whoever mentioned visiting Sleepy Hollow and going to Van Cortlandt Manor for Blaze. Not only because it's awesome, but because it's 10 minutes away from my house =D
I love Halloween and fall in
I love Halloween and fall in general. But I also have a birthday very close to Halloween, so the end of October is a time for celebration. My favorite scent of Yankee Candle, the Halloween Beware(used to be Witches Brew, then Purrchuli)came out a few weeks ago and I have been stocking up because it reminds me of the divine fall night smell. For seasonal reading I am starting Daphne Du Maurier's "Don't Look Now" and "The Haunted Looking Glass" a section of ghost stories chosen and illustrated by Edward Gorey. I've done Sleepy Hollow with my classes at school for the past few years and the love comparing the story to the Disney version of the cartoon. -Dana
A must read ( for me ) is "
A must read ( for me ) is " Rappicini's Daughter " by Hawthorne. Gothic doom and gloom by a master! A must have is a bowl of candy corn and peanuts - trust me. A must bake - pumpkin/chocolate chip cake - again - trust me.A must watch - The Legend of Hell House - very campy. A must imagine - myself in Portia's full on all red ensemble.Megan

I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday. However, my husband (a Christmas fan) and I have ruled that to keep each other sane, we cannot put up holiday decorations until a month before. So I have to wait until next weekend to pull out the pumpkins and skeletons :/
I'm crazy about Halloween as
I'm crazy about Halloween as well. I wanted a Halloween wedding, but in the interest of preserving my mother's health, ended up with a mid October date. If you get a chance, I highly recommend a weekend trip to the Hudson RIver Valley. You can tour Washington Irving's home, Sunnyside as well as visit the all sorts of great Sleepy Hollow related sites . One of my favorites is the Pumpkin Blaze. It's an an amazing event featuring thousands of beautifully carved Jack O Lanterns. They also have a legends weekend that is based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. And by all means, read the book. It's wonderful!http://www.hudsonvalley.org/index.php

It's not so much a seasonal read but I always try to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on Hallowe'en and V for Vendetta on Bonfire Night 5 November)
I absolutely love Halloween.
I absolutely love Halloween. It's just such a fun holiday. Dressing up AND candy? That's pretty tough to beat. I keep threatening to dress up as Jem, from Jem and Halograms. It'd be a serious committment, though, with the pink hair. What's your all-time favorite Halloween costume?
