In which I google
Oh, how I love Google! It is the perfect tool for mental mongooses like myself with our motto of "go and find out". (And if you're wondering if mongooses is the proper plural, I can assure you that google reveals mongooses is preferred, and mongeese is acceptable.) So this week, these are some of the terms I've googled:
*Eric Heiden--Olympic speed-skating champion from the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. I found out that he became a doctor and treats the US Olympic speed-skating team.
*Elsa Lanchester--I was watching The Private Life of Henry VIII and wondered what else she had done besides Bell, Book, and Candle and The Bride of Frankenstein. Her Anne of Cleves is hilarious.
*How tall is Shaun White?--To settle a family debate while we were watching halfpipe.
*snakeskin clutch--Shopping for the Las Vegas trip. I still haven't found one...
*Anne Boleyn--Can't remember what started this googlepalooza, but I do have a fondness for decapitated queens. I think I was looking for the Holbein sketch of her.
*Can baking soda strip color from my hair?--Yes, yes, it can.
*A River in the Sky--Elizabeth Peters' newest book and the LAST in the Amelia Peabody series. Just discovered it will be out in April, and am completely surprised because I honestly thought she'd wrapped up the series with the previous book. I will miss the Emersons!
*Southwest Airlines seat dimensions--After all the recent hoopla regarding Southwest Airlines seats, I was curious as to how big they really are. Turns out--not very.
*How is distance measured in ski jumping?--Another family debate during the Olympics. As it happens, we were all wrong. Distance isn't measured at the tip or tail of the ski, but the midpoint--under the ski boot.
And you? What have you googled lately?

I ALWAYS seem to google
I ALWAYS seem to google things. I just recently googled "Grape like flowers" because my sister wanted to know about them and we used to have them when we lived in this one house a long time ago. They are called Grape Hyacinth (Sp?). We used to eat them, because we thought they should taste like grapes. I also googled "farting hippo" because, if you have seen the TV drama NCIS, the gothic lab girl has one and it farts when you squeeze it. Google is a fantastic search engine to use if you are looking for something. It is much better than Yahoo in any way. More information and more options to choose from.

So how tall IS Shaun White?
So how tall IS Shaun White? Are you going to make me Google it for myself??
I often fall into the Google
I often fall into the Google loop. One of my favorite searches recently was when I Googled John Adams to remind myself how old he was in 1776 (note: was too lazy to walk into other room and get my copy of 'John Adams'). This led me to click on the George Washington link, then the George III link (and his wife), then George II (and his wife),then George I (and his wife), then Queen Anne, then the Act of Settlement, then back up to the Prince Regent, and finally, poor Princess Charlotte. I had to make myself stop. Such is the Google loop.

I am googling, how to get chapstick out of clothes AFTER you find it went through the dryer. It's a work in progress.
I google stuff for work all
I google stuff for work all the time, unfort boring stuff like "Myanmar + strategic trade controls"...Thanks for the head's up (heads up?) on Elizabeth Peters! She is one of my favorite authors, and I too had thought the series was over. She seems like the kind of person that would be great to have as an eccentric aunt.
Also googled Klausenberg and
Also googled Klausenberg and Hermannstadt to see where Theodora was traveling---different names in the atlas--am trying to figure out relationships in the castle, but early days, as they say.
Deanna, I hope your Elsa
Deanna, I hope your Elsa Lanchester google search pulled up WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION one of my all time favorite classic movies, with Charles Laughton and Elsa L. in great form (married for years I believe)-He is cantankerous and just out of the hospital and she is his private nurse--and Detriech is really good in the movie tooMy google list this week was googling to find out when they had finally identified all the Romanov family members executed in 1918 I think, which I read in one of your blogs, and also to find out about the remains of Louis XVII being finally identified, also thanks to your mentioning it in your blog. My Olympic google was to, find my favorite opening ceremony, which I only remembered as being in Scandinavia, and finally identified as Lillehammer, and then googled it to rewatch some of it on youtuble. Will definitely try swagbucks, and didn't realize this will be the last of the Emersons series, but there are always the many books to go back to visit --My Yorkie is named Peabody--though her buddy and long time companion, my male Tibetan terrier mix was already named Dickens when she arrived--someday, I hope to have a Brisebane and Lady Julia--also, googled ravens in the Tower when I started your books, because somehow my education was lacking and I didn't realize they are a permanent fixture there.

it's been boring work-related Google queries for me lately (".NET 2.0 VB.NET email form data as XML" - the fun, it never ends). That, and I keep googling for my local public library URL, to check if they have books I want to read. They have all of the Lady Julia books (which I devoured), but not "The Dead Travel Fast" (very frustrating).

I love to search for things!
I love to search for things! Whenever our internet is down I go through withdraw because how am I supposed to figure out what year the Olympics were held in St. Louis or how to remove blueberries stains from my counterops? (Both things I needed to google last week)But have you heard about swagbucks? It's like getting paid to google. You search and every so many searches, you get swagbucks that you can turn in for prizes like amazon gift cards. I've earned over $100 in gift cards already. And they take their information from other search engines like google so you still get good results. If you want to check it out: http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/BRCbanterMacKenzie(That is my referal link but I don't want this to be spam so if you want to go directly to swagbucks.com that is fine too)
